What type of car is a Tesla?

The Tesla Model S is a full-size four-door sedan powered by an electric motor. While most Model S cars have a single motor that powers the rear wheels, all-wheel drive versions with a separate motor for front and back wheels are available.

Unlike hybrid cars, the Tesla Model S is a fully electric vehicle and has no combustion engine of any kind. Power is supplied from a dense pack of lithium-ion batteries that compose much of the floor of the car. This battery pack has a capacity of 60 or 85 kilowatt-hours of energy, depending on the trim level of the Model S, and the larger battery supplies enough energy to drive 270 miles between recharges.
