What type of cleaning machine should be used on hardwood floors?

A vacuum with a brush or felt head can be used to remove built-up grit and dirt from hardwood floors. Steam cleaners, cleaning machines and vacuums with a beater bar head should not be used on hardwood floors as they can damage the finish.

Hardwood floors should be cleaned with a terry cloth mop and a small amount of hardwood floor cleaning solution. Excess cleaner should not remain on the floors to ensure the wood fiber is protected. Oil soaps, wax products or cleaners with ammonia, silicon, lemon oil or citrus oils should not be applied to hardwood floors because they can impair the recoat ability of the flooring.
