With the exception of Connecticut, all states require licensing to perform this type of work, and on-the-job training is common in the field. U.S. News and World Reports describes this job as having a median salary of $28,940 annually and emphasizes the need for interpersonal skills for workers in the field. In addition to applying skin treatments for clients, estheticians also sometimes need to teach clients the proper skin care techniques to care for skin problems at home.
