In what type of habitat did the dodo bird live?

The dodo bird lived on the isolated Mascarene Islands, east of Madagascar. The Mascarene Islands have a warm, tropical climate during the summer and the dodo had no enemies within its habitat.
Many people are under the impression that the dodo bird owes its extinction to the fact that it was stupid, but that is not the case. When European explorers landed on the islands around 1598, the dodo had never seen humans before. The species didn't know to fear humans, and would readily walk up to people, and it only took until 1755 for the humans to render the dodo extinct. The Europeans discovered the birds were easy prey and even made meals out of their eggs.
