According to WebMD, atrial fibrillation, also known as AFib, may put patients at risk of heart failure and stroke. Atrial fibrillation is a medical condition in which the heartbeat rhythm is abnormal. It causes an elevated heart pulse, which increases chances of blood clotting and impedes the heart's pumping ability.

WebMD explains that atrial fibrillation is usually associated with different medical conditions, including hypertension, heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, chronic lung disease or congenital heart disease. Symptoms of atrial fibrillation include lack of energy; tiredness; heart palpitations; dizziness; shortness of breath; and feelings of pressure, pain or tightness in the chest.
