Blood and blood-forming tissue are both connective tissues. Other types of connective tissues include loose connective tissue such as adipose tissue, dense connective tissue such as tendons and support tissue such as cartilage and bone.
All types of connective tissue are derived from the embryonic tissue known as the mesenchyme. This embryonic tissue arises from the mesoderm during fetal development. All types of connective tissue generally consist of a large group of cells that is surrounded by fibers and ground substance. The four types of connective tissues all give the body support or anchor other cells and tissues to organs and structures within the human body.
