The most popular and commonly found apples in the United States include Cortland, Empire, Fuji, Gala, McIntosh and Red Delicious. Apples range from sweet tasting to tart and bitter. Tart apples are excellent for baking. Examples of apples that are good when baking are Granny Smith, Jonathan and Rome Beauty.

Apples are sweet and crisp, tart and sweet or tart and firm. Red Delicious apples are crunchy and have a sweet taste. Other sweet tasting apples that are good to snack on are Golden Delicious, Braeburn and Gala. Mcintosh and Jonathan apples are good choices for making applesauce. The outside color of an apple is red, yellow or green.
