Typical duties of floor technicians include cleaning, prepping and refinishing a variety of floor types. They are responsible for the safe use of aliphatic urethanes and heavy power equipment such as floor buffers and pressure washers. Technicians are also responsible for cleaning and maintaining equipment.

Floor technicians work in hospitals, colleges and cafeterias. They often work nights when no one else is around. Duties include mopping and cleaning and sometimes stripping and waxing wooden floors. They may be required to move large furniture in a safe manner. Many floor technicians gain experience by working as janitors before specializing in floor maintenance.
