The typical habitat of the golden eagle is semiopen and open woods, forests, tundra, taiga, marshlands, shrublands and grasslands. Golden eagles can thrive in areas from sea level to mountains up to 12,000 feet high.They are found in the western part of North America from Alaska to Mexico.
The eagle and its five or six subspecies can also be found in the north of Africa and Eurasia. The golden eagle is the largest eagle in North America, and females are considerably larger than males. They are brown birds with touches of gold around the head, face and neck. They're typically monogamous, and pairs may stay together for years.
