The typical or median annual income for a registered nurse was $66,640 as of May 2014, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Twenty-five percent of nurses earned at or below $54,620 per year, while the top 25 percent made $81,080 ore more annually.
At the low end, 10 percent of nurses made $45,880 or less per year. The top 10 percent made at or above $98,880. The average salary was slightly above the median salary for nurses, at $69,790 per year. In hospitals, the largest employment sector, average annual pay was $71,640. In physician offices, nurses averaged $63,800. California had the highest pay among states, at $98,400 annually.
