What is the typical size of a ball python?

Ball pythons of the species Python regius typically reach 2 to 3 feet in length if male or 4 to 5 feet in length if female. They are the smallest of all African python species and rarely grow larger than 6 feet.
Ball pythons have a timid personality and are easily handled as pets. The ball python's name comes from the snake's tendency to roll into a ball with its head hidden when upset or scared. They feel safest in small vivariums with plenty of hiding spots or sleeping caves, as large tanks with open space cause them to feel overwhelmed.
