Typical symptoms of acid reflux in adults include heartburn, regurgitation and dyspepsia, according to WebMD. Symptoms tend to most often occur after eating a heavy meal, when bending over, or when in a prone position.

Heartburn, or indigestion, causes a burning sensation or other discomfort that the individual feels from the stomach region, through the abdomen and chest, and into the throat, explains WebMD. Regurgitation involves the sensation of a sour or bitter taste as acid ascends from the stomach to the throat or mouth. Dyspepsia is general stomach discomfort that may include burping, nausea, stomach bloating, and pain or discomfort in the abdomen.
