United is a member of the vast Star Alliance group, which includes many other well-known airlines such as Lufthansa among its number. The original United Airlines, formed in 1926, underwent a series of changes and mergers that culminated in the existence of the present-day operation known simply as United.

In 2010, United Airlines merged with Continental Airlines to form a single company. Today, United carries passengers to all parts of the globe, operating more than 5,300 flights a day. It has hubs in the four largest cities in the United States and employs more than 85,000 people across the world.
