To vote on "American Idol," call the toll-free number given for the contestant when voting begins and wait until your hear "Thanks for voting." Each contestant is given an individual toll-free number, so the vote goes through without the need to select any options.

Toll-free voting is open up to two hours after your regional broadcast airs, and each individual telephone number can vote up to 20 times per contestant. Voting results are revealed during the following week's episode. From a cell phone, viewers can also vote via text message during the voting period by texting the keyword number given for the contestant to 21523.
