How do you use a charcoal chimney?

To use a charcoal chimney, fill the space under the grid with crumpled newspaper, add charcoal to the top of the chimney, and start burning the newspaper. After about 15 minutes, dump the charcoal into the bottom of the grill, and add more coals if necessary.
- Add newspaper
Remove the cooking grid from the grill to access the bottom. Loosely crumple two or three sheets of newspaper so they fit under the grid of the charcoal chimney. Set the chimney upright in the bottom of the grill.
- Fill with charcoal
Fill the top of the chimney with good-quality charcoal, and do not use match-light charcoal. Allow the charcoal to burn in the chimney for 10 to 15 minutes or until gray ash covers the edges of the briquettes.
- Dump the chimney
Put on barbecue gloves, and grab the handle of the chimney. Dump the coals in a pile on the bottom of the grill. If the chimney does not hold enough briquettes, add more to the pile.
- Spread the coals
Once gray ash covers all of the charcoal, spread the briquettes evenly over the bottom of the grill. Place the cooking grid over the top of the charcoal, and grill your food.
