How do you use a coffee maker?

To use a drip coffee maker, measure cold water in the carafe, and pour it into the water reservoir. Put a paper filter in the filter basket, and add 1 heaping tablespoon of ground coffee beans for each 5-ounce cup of coffee. Close the lid, and press the start button.

1. Fill the carafe with water

   Run cold water into the carafe until it reaches the line marking the number of 5-ounce cups of coffee desired. If you have hard water, use distilled water to avoid hard-water buildup in the coffee maker.

2. Pour the water into the water reservoir

   Open the top of the coffee maker, and pour the water inside the water reservoir. Place the carafe back underneath the filter basket.

3. Prepare the coffee filter

   Place one clean paper filter in the filter basket above the carafe. Add ground coffee beans to the filter. Use 1 heaping tablespoon of ground coffee for each 5-ounce cup of coffee being made.

4. Turn on the coffee maker

   Make sure the filter basket is settled properly into place. Some coffee makers have a nozzle that needs to be moved over the filter. Shut the top of the coffee maker, and press the power button to begin the brew cycle.
