How do you use J.&P. Coats embroidery floss?

To use J.&P. Coats embroidery floss, cut the floss to the length you desire, separate the number of strands you need and recombine them, matching the ends. Use one hand to pull the end of a single strand free, and use the other hand keep the floss from tangling.
Even if you need all six strands, separating and recombining them prevents knots and helps the floss cover the fabric. Most cross-stitch projects require two strands of floss, although some Aida cloth projects require three strands. For projects on linen, the thickness of a single linen fiber should match the thickness of the combined floss strands. Add or remove floss strands to achieve the proper coverage.
