Piroxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, states Drugs.com. The standard adult dosage is 20 milligrams once a day or 10 milligrams twice a day.
Piroxicam is sold under the brand name Feldene, notes RxList.It can take up to two weeks of consistent use before symptoms begin to improve. Side effects may include upset stomach, diarrhea, bloating, skin itching, headache and dizziness. Serious side effects requiring medical attention include chest pain, weakness, fever, black or bloody stools, and jaundice. People taking piroxicam should avoid exposure to direct sunlight and refrain from drinking alcohol.
