"V.I.M." in the name of the V.I.M. Jean and Sneaker Store does not have a specific meaning. When brothers Joe, Ralph and Avi Nakash started the store, they bought an appliance store in Brooklyn which boasted a sign stating "V.I.M.," which was the source of the new store's name.
Because the Nakashes were unable to afford to replace the appliance store sign when they started their business in 1968, they used its name as the name of their clothing store. Although the Jordache jeans company, which the Nakashes own, sold the V.I.M. line of stores in the 1980s, the stores still exist in the area around New York City.
