Is there a vaccine for poison ivy?

As of 2015, there is no human poison ivy vaccine on the market, although the University of Mississippi began human clinical trials for one in 2012. The trials were estimated to take at least two years, reports the Toronto Star.
Mild cases of poison ivy are treated at home. The affected areas need to be kept clean and treated with a corticosteroid cream or calamine lotion. Patients can also take antihistamines to relieve itching and reduce swelling. Severe rashes over a large area of the body or infected rashes need to be treated by a doctor or dermatologist, according to WebMD.
