Valentino Rossi has a donkey on his helmet as a running joke to himself after crashing at Indianapolis in 2009, according to Crash.net. He was quoted as saying that if you make a dumb mistake in Italy, you're a donkey.
The Valentino Rossi donkey helmet premiered in Misano at the Grand Prix in 2009. The donkey took the place of the doctor in the AGV helmet graphic scheme. Since 2009, there have been replica AGV helmets produced for fans of Rossi that show the donkey. According to UltimateMotorcycling.com, the wreck happened at Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Aug. 30, 2009, at Indianapolis, Indiana.
