According to CoinStudy's 2014 price guide, the value of an uncirculated 1948 Jefferson nickel is $1.33 for those minted in Philadelphia, $2.83 for those minted in Denver and $2 for those minted in San Francisco. Due to the amount available, the coins are generally collected only in uncirculated condition.
The Philadelphia Mint produced over 89 million 1948 Jefferson nickels, while the Denver Mint produced about 45 million and the San Francisco Mint produced 11.3 million. According to CoinTracker's 2014 valuations, the San Francisco coins are worth up to $4.95, the Denver nickels are worth up to $5.25 and the Philadelphia nickels are worth the least, at up to $3.95.
