What is the Vatican telescope, Lucifer?
By Forinfos - 07/07/2025 - 0 comments
The Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, or VATT, is a Gregorian telescope installed by the Vatican Observatory in Mount Graham, Ariz., in 1993. It is a common misconception that the telescope is named Lucifer. VATT shares an observatory with an unrelated telescope named Lucifer but is not named Lucifer itself.
VATT is used to further the research mission of the Vatican Observatory, a research institution operated by the Holy See. As an institution, the Vatican Observatory is one of the oldest astronomy facilities in the world, with its earliest roots relating to the invention of the Gregorian Calendar and Tower from 1580 to 1582.
