The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is a toll road. As of 2015, the toll for a two-axle passenger vehicle is $15.00 with reduced fares for Staten Island residents and carpool participants.
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connects Staten Island with Brooklyn, New York. The ends of the bridge are Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn and Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island. When it was built in 1964, the bridge was the world's longest suspension span. The bridge's towers are 1.625 inches farther apart at the top than the bottom to compensate for the Earth's curvature. Each tower weighs 27,000 tons and requires 3 million rivets and 1 million bolts to hold it together.
