Visco, or viscoelastic, memory foam is made from polyurethane with chemicals added to increase its density and viscosity. It was originally developed at NASA in 1966 and is valued for its softness and high energy absorption.
Visco memory foam has the ability to mold in just moments to a body part or any object that applies pressure to it and is slow to return to its original shape once the pressure has been removed. Initially designed to absorb shock, this foam also provides added comfort and protection to airplane seats. As of 2014, it is used for helmet and shoe padding, prosthetics, car seats, saddle padding, pillows, bed mattresses and many other applications.
