The Vietnamese Dong is the official currency of the country of Vietnam and it has the currency code VND in the international currency exchange market. It is one of the world currencies with the least value, exchanging at a rate of 21,465 Dong for 1 U.S. dollar in March 2015.
The Vietnamese Dong is issued by the State Bank of Vietnam, and it has been the official currency of Vietnam since May 3, 1978 when North Vietnam and South Vietnam were reunified. The Dong was revalued on September 14, 1985, leading to a period of inflation that lasted through the early 1990s. Smaller divisions of the currency were previously in circulation, but they are no longer used due to their insignificant value.
