The currency used in the Netherlands, sometimes known as Holland, is the euro. As of September 2014, Holland is one of 18 out of the 27 European Union members that uses the euro as its official currency. The countries that use this currency are considered part of the Eurozone.
The euro was first introduced in 1999, and 11 countries, including the Netherlands, adopted it as their currency at that time. One euro is worth 100 eurocents. Eight coins are used in the system with values of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents in addition to 1 euro and 2 euro coins. Bills include the 5, 10, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro notes.
