Are W2 forms from the IRS available online?

The Social Security Administration allows employers to submit the information on W-2s online as a substitute for paper forms, as of 2015. The Internal Revenue Service offers a downloadable copy of the W-2 that is only for reference. The SSA does not accept downloaded or photocopied forms.

Employers who want to submit their employees' W-2 information online must register for the SSA's Business Services Online. This service also allows employers to check the status of their submitted reports and request extensions to resubmit reports. Employers and employees who need copies of prior year W-2 forms must order them through the IRS website.
