How do I wash felt?

Hand washing is often recommended for felt items. A mild detergent, lemon juice and cool water are used to hand wash items made from felt. The process can typically be completed in an hour, but the items should be air dried, which can take up to a day in cooler or humid weather.
Pretreat stains
Pretreat any stains using a mild laundry detergent.
Fill the sink with cold water and detergent
Fill a sink with cold water, or fill the tub with a few inches of cold water, and add a small amount of mild laundry detergent and a few drops of lemon juice. Mix the solution thoroughly, then place the item in the water.
Wash the felt item
Allow the felt to remain in the cold water and detergent for up to an hour to deodorize the item and remove stains. A soft brush can be used to remove stains.
Rinse the felt with cold water
Using cold water, rinse the item carefully to remove the detergent.
Dry the felt
Carefully wring any excess water out of the felt, then gently pull the item back into shape. Lay the felt on a clean, dry towel, and allow it to dry.
