How often do you water tulips?

Tulips should not be watered directly during their blooming period, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. Spring and summer rains often are more than enough water for tulip bulbs, which perform best in dry, airy soil that has mulch or sand added to promote drainage.
While tulip bulbs require little water during the growing season, they do need water immediately after planting in the fall. Tulip plants can be watered up to twice a week after the blooms are cut, according to EcoTulips. The deflowered plants should be left in place, which provides energy to the new bulbs forming below the surface.
