Ninety-two percent of every watermelon is water, and it has been reported that early explorers once used them as water canteens. The first recorded watermelon harvest occurred in Ancient Egypt.

Watermelons are a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A and antioxidants. One cup of watermelon provides roughly 24 percent of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.
