A silver necklace can be cleaned with a mixture of baking soda, salt, vinegar and hot water placed in a bowl lined with tinfoil. Cleaning the necklace requires baking soda, salt, vinegar, boiling water, tinfoil, a bowl and a polishing cloth. Removing the tarnish takes less than 30 minutes.
- Boil the water, and prepare the bowl
Set a pot of water on the stove to boil. Line the bottom and sides of an oven-safe bowl with tinfoil. Place the tinfoil in the bowl with the shiny side up.
- Mix the baking soda, salt and vinegar
Mix 1 tablespoon of salt with 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Place the mixture in the bowl on top of the tinfoil. Slowly add in 1/2 cup of vinegar. Stir the ingredients until the salt and baking soda dissolve.
- Add the boiling water and the necklace
Pour 1 cup of boiling water on top of the mixture. Place the necklace in the water. Flip the necklace after a few minutes.
- Polish the necklace
Remove the necklace from the water, and examine it for tarnish. Rub a soft cloth along the entire length of the necklace to remove the tarnish. Place it back in the mixture, and repeat the process if needed.
