What is the best way to fill large nail holes in walls and paint?

Use spackling compound to repair the small kind of holes in a wall made by nails and screws that have been removed. After using the spackle, repaint the wall. Spackling paste is not suitable for holes larger than a nail.

Spackling paste can be found in hardware stores, usually near the painting supplies. Before painting a wall, make a note of all the holes and divots in its surface. Fill the holes with spackling paste, then wait for the paste to dry. Sand down any spots that stick out of the wall. Prime and paint the wall. Use a putty knife to apply the compound.
