What is the best way to treat tricuspid regurgitation?

According to WebMD, medications are ineffective treatments for tricuspid regurgitation, or leaky tricuspid heart valves. Surgery may be required to repair these valves but is usually only performed in conjunction with repair work on other valves. It is generally preferable to repair a leaking valve rather than replace it.
WebMD states that if a patient suffering from tricuspid regurgitation experiences body swelling, a physician may recommend diuretics, or water pills, to alleviate the swelling. Slightly leaky tricuspid valves are not uncommon among adults. These leaks are often discovered only by chance and in the majority of cases are not cause for concern.
