What are some ways to choose baby names?

Some ways that baby names can be chosen are by considering a family name, a popular name, or a name with a designated meaning. Some people choose a baby name before getting pregnant, while others wait until after the child has been born.

A traditional name can be used from either the maternal or paternal side of a child's family. Family names can be combined to include both parent's heritages. A mother's maiden name can be chosen as a child's middle name, or both grandfather's can be combined to make a new first name.

There are many lists of most common baby names for any given year. These lists can be used to pick a favorite. Some parent's decide on a meaning or idea that they would like the baby's name to represent and then choose a name that designates that meaning.
