What are some ways to clean patent leather?

There are several brands of patent leather polishers and cleaners available in brick-and-mortar shoe stores and from online retailers; alternatively, a person can use mineral oil. Petroleum jelly is also a do-it-yourself substance that people can clean patent leather.

Mineral oil is available at drug stores, grocery stores and even some big box retailers.

1. Preparation.
Pour  a small amount of mineral oil on a clean, cheesecloth. If you don't have mineral oil, you can also use white vinegar or a dab of petroleum jelly.
2. Apply the substance.
Holding the item to be cleaned, take the cloth and rub down all the leather portions of the item, being careful not to miss any areas.
3. Apply extra rubbing.
Apply additional rubbing to areas that may have stubborn stains. White vinegar is particularly useful to eliminate these marks.
