Visually inspect the motor for damage, and if there is a manual thermal switch, reset it. Check for voltage at the motor terminals, and troubleshoot the circuits leading to the motor. Inspect the centrifugal switch for damage, and test it with an ohmmeter.
If the motor is burned or the shaft is jammed, it must be replaced. When testing the motor terminals with a voltmeter, voltage should be within 10 percent of the motor's total voltage. When testing with an ohmmeter, a reading of zero indicates a short. Replace the centrifugal switch if springs are broken or if it is burned.
