Weasels prefer to eat small rodents, such as mice. They also eat rabbits, birds, frogs and insects. Weasels eat around 40 to 60 percent of their body weight each day.
Weasels are reddish-brown in the summer and usually turn white during the winter. They live in burrows and are voracious hunters. They kill any prey animals that they can find, but they often leave the excess to rot because they prefer fresh meat.
The term "weasel" usually refers to one particular species, the least weasel. However, it can also be used to refer to any of the other species of weasels. Other common words used to refer to various types of weasels are "stoat," "ermine," "polecat," "ferret" and "mink."
