What is the weather like on Venus?

The weather on Venus is best described as windy and hot. The temperature can soar to 860 degrees Fahrenheit, and winds can blow at speeds of up to 224 miles per hour.

Venus has an atmosphere that is made almost entirely of carbon dioxide with a small bit of sulfuric acid and nitrogen. Its excessive temperature is due to the greenhouse effect caused by so much carbon dioxide — it forms a blanket that keeps heat from dissipating. The heavy, thick clouds that shield Venus' surface prohibit visible observation of the planet. Venus doesn't experience seasons because very little of the heat from the sun penetrates its atmosphere, and the planet only makes a full rotation once every 243 Earth days.
