What were houses like in Ancient Egypt?

Houses in Ancient Egypt were primarily made out of mud bricks. Mud was most abundant material available for construction after the region's annual flood.
After the annual flood, mud was collected, placed in molds and baked in the sun until dry. One of the primary differences between a wealthy person's house and a poorer person's house was how many layers of brick the walls had. Usually, poorer people only had one layer of brick.
Most houses had one central room used for most activities, including sleeping, with several smaller rooms connected to it, such as the kitchen and entrance hallway. Often the roof became another space used as a room, as it offered better lighting.
