Jimmy Carter's domestic policies included decontrolling petroleum prices and creating the Department of Education. He also made policies to bolster the Social Security system.
Some of Carter's main goals during his presidency were to confront the energy shortage. He did this by forming national energy policies in hopes of stimulating production. He also aimed at increasing jobs for Americans to keep the unemployment rates low. Part of this goal included him appointing minorities to governmental positions. In an effort to improve the economy overall, he tried to reduce the budget deficit and reduce inflation. Unfortunately, this led the country into a small recession.
