For most taxpayers in the United States, the Roth IRA contribution limit for 2014 was $5,500, according to the IRS. The limits were higher for older taxpayers, but lower for those who earned more than $181,000 in adjusted gross income in 2014, as outlined by the IRS.

Taxpayers over 50 may make contributions up to $6,500 to a Roth IRA for 2014, the IRS says. Married couples who earned more than $191,000 in 2014 cannot make contributions to a Roth IRA, but those with an adjusted gross income between $181,000 and $191,000 may make reduced contributions, as explained in IRS Publication 590-A, which outlines details for taxpayers filing as single, head of household, or married filing separately as well.
