Stanislas Wawrinka and Li Na were the winners of the 2014 Australian Open. Wawrinka upset Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal match and then defeated Rafael Nadal in the men's final. At age 31, Li Na defeated Dominika Cibulkova, becoming the oldest women's champion during the Open Era, as of 2015.
Stanislas Wawrinka's 2014 Australian Open win earned him his first Grand Slam championship at age 28. Wawrinka was an underdog going into his match with Nadal, losing all 12 of his previous matches against him. Despite his previous record, Wawrinka won the final match in four sets, beating Nadal three sets to one. On the women's side, Li Na won two straight sets against Cibulkova to win the championship.
