Whale watching season in Boston is from April to October each year. Krill, mackerel and herring attract the whales to feeding grounds off the Massachusetts coast. The whales spend the summer months feeding in the nutrient-rich waters and then migrate to warmer waters when cold weather comes.

The most common whales seen by whale watchers near Boston are humpback whales. These majestic creatures can be 35 to 55 feet in length. Finback whales are also common off the Massachusetts coast, and they can grow to lengths of 45 to 70 feet. Other whales that can be found near Boston include minke, right and pilot whales.
