Do whales lay eggs?
By Forinfos - 07/12/2025 - 0 comments
Whales do not lay eggs and instead give birth to their calves as humans and other mammals do. When a female whale gives birth, she does so directly in the water and then helps the baby up to the surface to get its first breath.
Whales are part of the mammal classification. Mammals do not have gills, do not have scales, do not lay eggs and do have hair and give birth. Dolphins are also a member of the mammal group and give birth to their babies instead of laying eggs. Whales have one calf at a time and the gestation period differs by whale species, but is approximately 12 months for the blue whale.
