The Department of Energy estimates that consumers could save up to $575 million per year in electricity costs by using high-efficiency air conditioners. While some older Whirlpool air conditioners did qualify as Energy Star appliances under the standards active at the time of their manufacture, these models may not be as efficient as current air conditioner models.
