What are the white spots on my face?

White spots on the skin can be caused by eczema, scar tissue or yeast infections. However, if the spots aren't raised, itchy or irritated, they could be the result of vitiligo.

Vitiligo causes the deterioration of the cells that produce melanin, the pigment that adds color to hair, eyes and skin. Although vitiligo affects people of every race, it is more noticeable in those with dark skin. This disorder is painless, and the spots often stop growing for years at a time. The cause of vitiligo is unknown although it does tend to run in families, suggesting a genetic component. There is, as of 2015, no known cure for this condition.
