Where do wild black panthers live?

Black panthers are found in many parts of the world. They are not a specific species. Black panthers are larger cats such as leopards, pumas or jaguars that happen to be black instead of the species' more common coloration.

The black color variation appears most often in leopards and jaguars. Black leopards have been found in China, Myanmar, India, Nepal and the Malay Peninsula. In these animals, the black coloration is caused by a recessive gene mutation. Black jaguars have been spotted in South America. The black variety of jaguars is the result of a dominant gene mutation. Black pumas are sometimes seen in North America.
