Do women have one more rib than men?

Women and men have the same number of ribs. All humans, regardless of gender, have 24 ribs with 12 on either side of the body.

One in every few hundred people has an extra rib, called cervical ribs, but this trait is unrelated to gender. In the human body, the 11th and 12th pairs of ribs are called "floating ribs" because they are not attached to the sternum. They are only anchored by connective tissue. The myth that men and women have a different number of ribs is common and possibly originated in religion. According to the Bible, Eve was created from Adam's rib, which may account for the origin of the myth.
