Lee Petty won the first-ever Daytona 500 motor race in 1959. Petty's son Richard went on to become a racing legend in his own right, including winning multiple Daytona 500 races.
The 1959 Daytona 500 had a very tight photo finish, and immediately after the race, it appeared that Johnny Beauchamp had won the race. Three drivers, including Petty and Beauchamp, appeared to have crossed the finish line at the same time, and one of the cars was actually blocking the official NASCAR photo finish camera, making the verdict difficult to determine. A few days after the race, Petty was declared the winner.
